Mowing it high: That grass that stays green all year here in Charlotte is called Tall Fescue for a reason, it does better when you keep it mowed at 3.5" to 4.5" height.

Mow it low: That yellow/tan grass during the winter is greening up right about now, and you can mow it low, and keep it low. The exception is if you let it grow too much then you don't want to mow more than 1/3 of the grass blade.

Next in lawn care is the pre-emergent first half of February. Why? To prevent Crabgrass and other dormant w**d seeds in your lawn soil from germinating.

Why so early? In Charlotte-NC the time window for spring w**ds to germinate is wide, and this February application should be the 1st out of 2 pre-emergent applications each spring. The product will last 30 to 50 days, so in mid to late march, you should apply the second pre-emergent dose.

How? Buy your lawn product at a home improvement store and read the label before applying it, or hire us to do it, and don't worry about it any longer!
