This is the one week of the year that these adorable cherry blossoms wave hello to you as you glide towards the Blue Ridge Mountains. 😍🌸

Meet Melissa Haight, the woman behind . 🧘🏻‍♀️☀️💆

She brings a fusion style to body work combining Ayurveda, yoga, and multiple lineages of massage for overall personal refreshment!

She now also has a monthly online Samatva subscription where you can receive yoga, recipes and wisdom for living through the seasons through the lens of Ayurveda. Next time you need that extra sparkle, let her magic do the trick!

Did you know you can (sort of) see the building from the Riverview Park river trail? This is the opposite view of the scenic shots found throughout our feed.

While taking this, a man noticed my hoodie. He asked where the place was. I pointed through the trees. I was honestly feeling a bit wistful for the familiar bustle. He shared how he pursued multiple graduate degrees in voice and not only understood the importance of having a place to go to maintain the connection to the work, he immediately understood the implications of teaching breath amidst connection to others. He made a comment about the need for good health and wellness options at this time. 💪 I shared with him how, when you look at the trends, coming into the circle trains and teaches things that are so deeply needed - availability, connection, and so much more. And that in this spirit, we’ve wiped the slate clean to begin again anew and it’s been so cool to see a health & wellness center pop up in this matrix. Because, after all, it could be a spinal misalignment that is affecting your voice and that all needs to be part of the everyday conversation. How we move, how we relate to the world around us, how we breathe. That it’s a bigger dragon to slay than teaching a song. That a business built on separating people out into private rooms needs to be reimagined to begin with the tribe first. We laughed about how it’s not an everyday conversation for most people to pick up on. This was a rendezvous that brought into sharp focus…the work always continues, it simply changes shape! And it keeps expanding and attracting.

The pandemic opened a deeper well…the river below reminds us that we are constantly being refreshed with the new by a current that keeps moving in the path of least resistance.

And those crows? The Google says they represent adaptability, cleverness and intelligence, teamwork and reciprocity, transformation…sounds like music over here!

Your voice is a beacon of light in the wilderness.✨🕯✨

Your voice, as it comes through you, right here, right now, is the balm to another’s soul.

Finding the courage in a moment to open your mouth, open your heart and let sound out forever changes the space and people around you.

And when your precious instrument needs a deeper level of care, there are people like and many others who can support you in the inner game through the somatic experience.

Five months later, the house has taken flight in a new iteration. We’ve had soft little impulses here and there to get a gentle and nuanced conversation flowing on voice and body, tapping into this newly assembled body of knowledge…like maybe it would be cool to do a monthly newsletter opening the door to these different disciplines and why and how they can relate to voice. But for now it’s still a quiet “not yet.” Instead, we’re sitting with and admiring the perfection of what is right now, watching new rhythms and patterns form, unfettered. Letting whatever golden thread is here weave itself from the inside out.

Tonight, checking on the house, singing to its hallways and greeting the plants, the thought that every voice is unique, every voice is an important part of the whole, and that you’re perfect just as you are felt like a message that could stand to be repeated.

This photo felt like a little beam of light, just as your voice is a beam of light from wherever you stand. ✨

Some definitions of “metamorphosis” include reference to two or more distinct phases. The Center for Vocal Study just metamorphosed into a wellness center of independent health and wellness professionals. ✨❤️💫 While thematic with the larger inquiry of voice, our sign will come down at some point sooner rather than later to make space for this greater reorganization of energy. A relaxed and complete exhale to prompt a complete and relaxed inhale! 💫☺️🫁❤️🌱✨

The new residents of 170 South Pantops Drive are all individual business owners and guides in the healing arts. Everyone is now in the building, seeing clients, and tonight we gathered as a group to get to know each other. 😍✨

It was really fun to hear the conversation go in and out of different lines of thinking regarding the body, converging on the understanding of the body’s great capacity for wellbeing, alignment, and feeling lighter and brighter. From talk therapy to EMDR, listening to where the body gives a yes for manual attention, supporting the body in releasing what no longer serves, strengthening the body, and the art of inviting people to an empowered approach to their own bodies...these talented ladies are, in their own ways, right up our sound alley.

One thing is certain with the voice - it invites you in. It invites you in to know yourself more deeply. There is the art and craft of sharing your voice with joy, ease, precision, intention, etc...and there is also the art and craft of working with your body in a way that really speaks to you and works for you. So that you can keep sharing your voice and gift with the world.

It’s been really amazing to see this confluence of energies gently swirl together here in the last four months. Something new is taking shape in this building, and it still feels like it’s part of a greater voice conversation. In the meantime, we’re just stepping back and watching it happen for now and listening for the harmonics.... ☺️🎵💎

Happy Friday! The house is settling into its new pattern as its new tenants get set up. Each of these new wellness professionals are individual businesses so if you’re in need of:

While all this activity is new and is separate from what has been The Center for Vocal Study, there is a synergy here that feels resonant with the broader inquiry of of body and voice and sound. We thought you’d like to see how it’s evolving!

All of your voices have set beautiful high frequencies into this space.

Sound is ancient medicine and it’s the future of medicine. We are enjoying this unfolding and eager for more.

Later this week this office in the back suite will become an acupuncture treatment room! The acupuncturist who is moving in has been in practice for 17 years by word of mouth only. Her name is Lisa Stedig and will be seeing clients here beginning in a week!

Nesting is happening! Walked in and and were in session downstairs and and in session upstairs! Suddenly those floors and doors seem so musical! Floors will stay charmingly talkative, WD-40 coming for the doors tomorrow. 😅🚪🎵

Our Story

We are committed to providing a calm sanctuary where teachers and students thrive with peace of mind, wellbeing, open hearts and free voices. We believe your voice matters. The Center for Vocal Study began spontaneously in October 2016, in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. As of September 2019, we now occupy a gorgeous two-story home just a few minutes from downtown, nestled in a comfortable office park overlooking the Rivanna River.

Our offerings have evolved beyond the standard “voice lesson” to invite an even deeper level of service for those seeking lasting transformation. In January 2020, we are launching a brand new Monthly Membership program to provide access to open studio time and a creative, voice-centric learning environment. In February 2020 we are running a business leadership small group coaching program for creative artists. And we are about to kick off our third year of our Artist-in-Residence program features 3 guest artists for intensive training and masterclasses (January, March and May).
