CONSTRUCTION-RELATED FATALITY
CHASEBURG, WIS β Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Tuesday morning, November 12, 2024, at approximately 11:00 AM, the Sheriffβs Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified of a construction site accident on Schoenagel Lane, rural Chaseburg, WI, in the town of Harmony.
A construction contractor was using an all-terrain telescopic handler while installing siding on a new home. The individual was seriously injured when caught between the unit and an exterior wall.
First responders with the Genoa-Harmony Fire & Rescue were sent to the construction site until 911 dispatchers learned that the injured was being transported to the Stoddard Bergen Fire Department station, in the village of Stoddard, by private vehicle to meet EMS. Upon arrival, the first responders were standing by, and Tri-State Ambulance/Gundersen Ambulance had also responded.
After extensive life-saving efforts by emergency personnel were exhausted, the individual, David Hibbard Rode Puig (pronounced PWEEG), age 39, of rural Viola, WI was pronounced dead by Vernon County Coroner Betty Nigh.
My heart goes out to a hurting family. I am thankful for my 911 dispatchers, the deputies, as well as all emergency personnel who not only responded to this difficult incident, but for what they do every day faithfully serving our community.
The incident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, Vernon County Coronerβs Office, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
