After we limbed this tree, we cut out a wedge halfway up so we could drop the top without destroying other trees that were behind it. We had a rope tied from the top of the tree down to a pully tied to the trunk of another large tree and out to my truck. Because of how dangerous it was, I had to climb down and get out of the way before pulling the top half down. I will post a short video of it coming down next.

You can see the size of this tree better here . It was so rotten that I did not climb any higher than this photo shows due to the mass amount of rot and carpenter ant nests in this tree. It was too dangerous to go any higher, so we just cut off one branch at a time pulling them with ropes to help them fall the way we wanted.

This picture seems to say exactly what we thought when we went to give the bid for this tree - " holy cow that is a big dead tree! " You may not quite be able to see the size of this tree from this picture but wait till you see the rest.

This tree was an exercise in patience. It took six painstaking hours in this tree before I was able to come down. On one side of the tree was a house, the other a fence and in the back a deck. Each piece had to be lowered with a rope into somebody's hands and carried off the deck.....and it was a long day.

Here are some pics of trimming that old maple tree. It was a time consuming job. We had to be very slow and cautious to keep this branch off of the roof of the house.

This tree is an amazing old growth maple I had the privilege of working on. I only trimmed off the far left branch because of how it hung over their house. I love these giant old trees- they are just amazing.
