We haven't & won't offer the instant estimates online. When you ask for a roof quote, a satellite can't see how many layers the roof has or what the shingles are nailed to. The only way to provide an accurate quote is to go there and look for these details. It isn't fair to hook someone with a low number then go back at the end and add a large increase. We choose to do it the right way from the start!

The property owner's agent sent their "preferred" roofer to initially inspect this roof. He said 10 tabs needed to be repaired. In 2 minutes I said there wouldn't be a matching shingle available and needed to be fully replaced. Had this homeowner not sought someone will the proper experience to reevaluate his roofs condition and left it in the hands of his agent, he would have no choice but to be left with a decision of an improper repair or an out-of-pocket roof replacement.

Coming from a time when we were carrier preferred vendors (that didn't last long since we wouldn't say we didn't see damage), most carrier sent contractors are there to minimize your claim. (Not saying this agent meant to even do it, but I know 1st hand how things are done) If asked if you want a "program contractor" to be sent, say ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Most of the carrier preferred contractors see the writing on the walls that if they keep saying that duck quacks they won't keep being called. However, if they were to say they heard the duck bark, that phone keeps ringing!

Ethics matters. Experience matters.

Handling claims for others as a Public Adjuster has given me much more insight than I ever would have gotten as just being a roofer. Claims handling aside, I've had to dig deep regarding non-licensed contractors working in the counties where a license is required. I've recently had to contact several of the state and local officials to get the facts straight.

I knew Chattanooga had non-licensed contractors actively working. That's the nature of the beast. However, I didn't expect to see the amount of unlicensed roofers in our area! Any project above $3,000 must have at least a Handyman license. Above $24,999 requires a full General Contractor's license.

Roofing is not something you want to play around with! A bad flashing job can be very costly. Not using proper components could cause immediate or future leaks. Shingles being laid out in the wrong pattern could even cause a need for full replacement.

What happens when you have a problem and you try to have the non-licensed contractor provide warranty repairs? Either that phone goes in the trash can, or that number is no longer in service. Non-licensed are not governed as licensed contractors. Also, by having a license, that means the state requirements for workers comp and general liability are there for your protection.

I just had a good reminder of why it's important to go with someone actually LOCAL. We chose to go with Terminix last year. I thought they were based in Chattanooga. HAHAHAHAHA They won't even give you the local phone number for Chattanooga! I then asked for their corporate number and was told they weren't able to give that as well! Look up Terminix phone numbers and you'll find 20 that all lead to the same call center.

This is about a scheduling issue and someone getting rude when I informed them today wasn't a good day because they haven't called in a week to confirm the date. But, what if it was for something bad? There's no way to contact someone local. Now I have to wait 24 hours for a call back that won't ever come.

This right here is why I chose to stay local to Chattanooga! This is why I only have 1 phone number! This is why I only have 1 location! I don't want anyone thinking that if you need us, we won't be there. This "new age" way of business by branching out into 50 markets sucks for everyone except for the greedy business owners! Yeah a good salesman will sell you on choosing them. But how will they be there down the road? Better question is, WILL THEY be there down the road?
