There is a little cold snap coming. Probably only risky for exposed backflow preventers. They need to be brought inside if you haven't already done so. While you're at it, it's a good idea to take the hoses off your hydrants.

UPDATE: Phones are back! Thank you EPB!!
It's Thursday, June 19th. We are having phone issues. We are diligently working to get them fixed.

Over the years, drain cleaning being a large part of our work, we have pulled almost everything you could imagine out of drains. Glasses, pens and pencils, cell phones, toys, keys. the list goes on and one.
Today though, we had a new one. One of the guys was unstopping a drain at a popular local eating establishment. He pulled his cable back and was shocked at what he found on the end of it. It is hard to shock one of our guys.
It was a finger. Most of one anyway.
We have been thrown into a true quandary. What do you do? Who do you call. The police were not interested. They need a much larger percent of a body to classify it as a body. With twenty digits, most of one is a very small percentage of a body. They have a lost and found box. They don't want our finger.
We decided to just start here and see if anybody is missing any parts. I guess it's possible they don't even know, so please count.
We are not interested in re-homing this part, we only want to get it back to it's rightful owner. Expect to be required to describe it adequately to convince us of ownership.
If we don't find a matching four fingered individual, I don't know yet what we will do with it. Suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

Time for this again! Okay folks, just in case somebody hasn't been paying attention, it's going to get COLD!!
Be sure and leave some water dripping, especially on all fixtures on an outside wall. Make sure you run hot and cold. Leave the sink cabinet doors open also. Check the crawl space vents and close up any other cracks or openings where that cold air can get in. If you have a water heater or washing machine in a garage or separate utility room, a little safe heat is a good idea.
Be sure hoses are disconnected from your outside hydrants. If your outside hydrants are not the freezeproof type, cover them.
If some of your pipes do freeze, try to not leave the house until they thaw out (we will have our thawing machines dusted off and ready to go). They may already be burst ready to thaw and flood the house. If you have frozen lines and need to leave, try to turn your main water valve off. If you don't know how to turn your water off just call us, we will do our best to tell you how.
If you are going out of town it is always a good idea to turn you water off. Leave your heat on. A burst pipe in the house can do tremendous damage.

It sounds like it will be chilly tonight. A good time to take the hoses off your outside faucets. If you have an exposed back flow preventer they need to be taken inside or heated.
