Back in January 2026, the EPA’s refrigerant rules required all new HVAC systems to use new refrigerants (R-454B). That means manufacturers had to completely redesign units with added safety sensors, leak detection systems, and updated components, driving up production and installation costs industry-wide.

Essentially, systems that were already pricey just got more expensive overnight & the prices have stayed there.

If your AC or heat pump is on its last legs, we wish we had better news but now is the time to lock in a quote before summer demand pushes prices even higher.
