We replaced an older indirect water heater with a new 45-gallon high-efficiency indirect tank and installed a Caleffi thermostatic mixing valve to improve performance and safety.

Benefits of this upgrade:
Increased hot water capacity
More consistent water temperature
Protection against scalding
Higher efficiency using the existing boiler

Got a call this week for an emergency leak in a commercial building in Billerica.

When we opened the ceiling we found the problem right away — a 4" cast iron drain line split wide open along the top.

This is something we see a lot with older buildings. Cast iron slowly corrodes from the inside out, and by the time you notice water leaking through the ceiling, the pipe is usually already completely compromised.

We cut out the failed section and replaced it with new no-hub cast iron and shielded couplings, properly supported and tied back into the system.

If your building still has original cast iron drain piping, it may be worth having it looked at before it turns into an emergency like this.

Just wrapped up a clean and efficient install of a 10″ whole-house sediment filter for one of our homeowners in Chelmsford.

Why this matters:
By installing this sediment filter at the main feed, we’re helping protect the entire plumbing system from sand, silt, rust, and other suspended particles—basically the unseen crud that can clog pipes, reduce appliance lifespan, and degrade water flow.

What we did:
• Mounted the 10″ filter housing on plywood backing for stability
• Copper piping for the bypass loop and service access
• Included shut-off valves for easy service and future cartridge change-outs
• Tagged the unit and set the date for next filter change-out (the filter should ideally be changed about every 3-6 months depending on load)
