Our meat projects for this year.
-Red Wattle/Bershire Pig 🐷
-Bronze Turkeys 🦃
-Cornish Cross Chicken 🐓
This year I’m all in on learning how to process our own meat and this time I’m going to learn how to process our pig, butcher, cure and package at the Modern Homestead Conference in Coeur d'Alene Idaho.
This is year 5 for us learning how to become a little more self sufficient and building our own community of like minded individuals while sharing the ups and downs along the way. It’s definitely not easy. Heartbreaking and gut wrenching at times. Sometimes you even downsize to get your bearings and then you get right back in with all new perspectives.
This is the year things are starting to work out on their own. The basics like canning, growing vegetables, composting are second nature. Animal care is always a learning process but we’ve got a good foundation and vet in place for times when we are in way over our heads.
Ive made goals for food preservation and kept a list of things to restock our pantry from the garden. With some healthy investment of time and soil amending our organic farming practices are finally paying off this year! Or so we hope 🙏
Every month I’m picking up new books from our local library hoping the information I gain is less AI and more passed down from generations ago. I’ve learned quite a bit about how much to plant of each thing per person and I was way off 🤣 A little better time management is wise for this easily distracted momma.
Also resting when I’m tired instead of pushing through like I’m not going to have time to do it later. Self care goes along way.
I’m still balancing the whole herbal medicine and Western medicine process while living with my stage 4
Cancer diagnosis almost 3 years ago now. Still in remission and living with my new normal life. I have another CT scan scheduled later this month but so far my blood work is all normal. I’ll be getting that appointment with the Endocrinologist soon to fix the damage done by the 4 rounds of immunotherapy cocktail.
Well I pray you all have a blessed weekend, enjoy some of this beautiful weather, pray often and love much.
