🕷️ Homeowners – Be Careful Opening Your Water Meter Box! 🚨
We’ve been running into this more often lately, so here’s a quick safety tip from Andrews Air & Water.
Water meter boxes are dark, damp, and rarely disturbed — which makes them the perfect home for spiders, including black widows and other venomous species.
⚠️ Why this matters:
• Black widows LOVE meter boxes
• They hide underneath the lid and around shut-off valves
• Reaching in without looking can result in a serious bite
• Emergency shutoffs during leaks can quickly turn into emergency room visits
We’ve opened plenty of boxes to find heavy webbing and active nests. Most homeowners have no idea until it’s too late.
🔧 Safety Tips:
• Wear gloves
• Use a tool — don’t reach in blindly
• Lift the lid carefully and step back
• Shine a flashlight inside before touching anything
• If you see heavy infestation, call a professional
Your main water shutoff is something you should know how to use — but you should also know how to open it safely.
If you’re unsure where your shutoff is or want it inspected and exercised to make sure it works when you need it, we’re happy to help.
