Horizontal Directional Drill Operator
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Horizontal Directional Drill Operator to join our construction team. This role involves operating heavy equipment and specialized drilling machinery to facilitate underground utility installations and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction site operations, mechanical knowledge, and experience with various heavy equipment. This position offers an opportunity to work on challenging projects in a dynamic environment, contributing to essential infrastructure development.
Responsibilities
• Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently to install underground utilities
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on drilling machinery and related heavy equipment
• Assist with the setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of drilling systems
• Coordinate with project managers and crew members to ensure project timelines are met
• Operate additional construction machinery such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tanker trucks as needed
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment at all times
• Read and interpret project plans, maps, and technical specifications
• Support other construction activities including paving and site preparation when required
Requirements
• Experience operating horizontal directional drills and heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, caterpillar machinery, and tanker trucks preferred but will train the right person
• Mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
• Prior experience working on construction sites with exposure to underground utility installation or paving projects preferred
• Strong understanding of safety procedures in construction environments
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift heavy equipment or materials as needed
• Construction site experience with familiarity in excavation, paving, or related infrastructure work is advantageous
• MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL FROM OUR HOME BASE IN MAINE TO VARIOUS JOBSITES NATIONWIDE.
