St. Louis friends, today is worth paying attention to.

The forecast is calling for a serious severe weather setup, with the main concern this afternoon and evening.

True North Restoration will be monitoring conditions and is available if storms cause water intrusion, roof leaks, basement seepage, sewer backups, or other storm-related property damage.

Before storms arrive:

◾ Secure loose items outside.

◾ Park vehicles under cover if possible.

◾ Charge phones and keep weather alerts turned on.

◾ Know where you’ll shelter if a tornado warning is issued.

◾ Check sump pumps, drains, and low areas if your home has had water problems before.

If water gets into your home, timing matters. Water can spread behind walls, under flooring, and into materials that may not look wet at first. The longer it sits, the more damage it can cause.

Once it is safe, take photos, avoid standing water near electrical hazards, and call for help quickly so the damage can be assessed, dried, stabilized, and documented.

Stay safe today and follow official weather warnings and directions.

We received a call that a family in Wentzville discovered a leak had been going on for at least 5 hours. Our team was on site at 8 pm last night (Saturday), quickly doing the hard work to prevent any further damage and mitigate what had already happened.

We carefully removed baseboards, drilled holes in that space to dry out the walls, set up drying chambers to trap heat and remove the moisture effectively- stopping that mold and bacteria growth before it even has a chance to get going.

We'll be back on site on Tuesday, measure the moisture levels, and if it's dried out, get the baseboards back in place.

This family is both lucky and did the right thing in calling right away - the actual damage and cost should be minimal, and they'll be able to get on with their lives like nothing happened in no time.

You know significant snow is coming, but the sustained cold is what drives most of the damage we see.

We’re looking at multiple days below freezing, with overnight lows near zero and daytime highs stuck in the teens and low 20s. That leaves very little recovery time for all of your pipes filled with water.

In these conditions, pipes often split while frozen and fail later when pressure returns. Exterior walls, vacant units, garages, and underheated spaces tend to be the first places problems show up. Commercial properties can carry hidden risk until tenants start calling.

Our team is pepearing right now to serve across the metro area. Vehicles are stocked, equipment is staged, and crews are ready to move.

This kind of weather is severe and it does not happen often here. If pipes fail, we’re ready to respond. Our contact information is in the comments if you need us.

With sub-10° temperatures expected this weekend, frozen pipes are a real risk in St. Louis homes, especially those with plumbing in exterior walls, garages, or basements.

What many homeowners don’t realize is that pipes usually split while frozen, then burst hours later when temperatures rise and water pressure returns.

How to reduce your risk:
▫️ Let vulnerable faucets drip (cold side)
▫️ Open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls
▫️ Keep your thermostat consistent. Don’t lower it overnight.
▫️ Check basements, garages, crawl spaces, and utility rooms

Taking these few simple steps now can prevent major water damage later.

Of course, if you do experience water damage during this cold snap, fast response matters.
