Most people assume these caps are just packaging and throw them away.
In reality, temporary protective caps are used during pressure testing. They help maintain system integrity and protect the air vents throughout the testing and construction phase.
Once the installation is complete, the temporary caps are removed and replaced with the standard operating caps.
A small detail that rarely gets discussed, but one that plays an important role in a proper installation.

Working with refrigerants without an EPA Section 608 certification is illegal in the US — and it can cost you big. Fines can reach up to $44,426 per violation, and both the technician and the company can be held liable. Every time you hook up gauges, add/remove refrigerant, or open the refrigerant loop without certification, you’re risking a serious penalty under the Clean Air Act.
If you’re an apprentice, you’re only exempt when working under direct, close supervision of a certified technician. The fix? Take an EPA-approved exam, get your Type I, II, III, or Universal certification — and remember: your EPA 608 certificate never expires.
Don’t gamble with your career. Get certified.
