Castle-inspired character, reimagined for modern family living.
 
Part of a three-building family compound, this residence was designed around two distinct visions: a love of dark, substantial materials and Old World character balanced by a preference for lighter, more relaxed interiors.
 
Those influences come together through layered materials and thoughtful contrast—a Gothic-arched entry, warm wood floors and ceiling beams, muted blue cabinetry, dark-stained wood, natural stone, and charcoal chevron wood detailing woven throughout the interiors.
 
From dramatic gathering spaces to light-filled private rooms, each space carries its own personality while remaining part of a cohesive whole. Custom details and highly personalized spaces make the home distinctly its own, while a consistent material palette ties everything together.

Every great renovation starts with understanding what already exists.
 
Before design begins, our team spends time in the field carefully measuring existing homes and buildings, documenting every wall, window, beam, and detail. Those measurements are then translated into a Revit model, giving us an accurate digital representation of the space before we begin designing.
 
This detailed existing conditions model helps us coordinate new work with existing construction, identify potential conflicts early, and create drawings that lead to a smoother construction process. It’s one of the many behind-the-scenes steps that helps turn thoughtful design into successful projects.

Sunshine, baseball, and even better company!
 
Every summer, we trade our desks for a day of fun together outside the office, and this year’s outing did not disappoint! We cheered on the Cubs, enjoyed great conversations, and wrapped up the day playing darts at Feather & Tail—a space we were proud to design.

Alisa is currently studying Architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and has been with our office since May. Throughout the summer, she has been assisting with project drafting while also supporting our marketing efforts. We’re grateful to have her as part of our team and are excited to see her continue to grow and contribute.

Please join us in welcoming Joel Padilla to the Cook Murphy Architects team!
 
Joel joined our firm in December as a Senior Project Coordinator, bringing a strong work ethic and a collaborative approach to every project. Originally from Wisconsin, he earned his degree in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and has quickly become an invaluable member of our team.
 
From developing detailed construction drawings to coordinating project deliverables, Joel’s attention to detail and dedication help keep our projects moving forward. His positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed have made him a great fit for our team, and we’re excited to continue growing alongside him.
 
Outside the office, you can usually find Joel on the basketball court, staying active and enjoying time with friends and family.
