The September Test: What Does Your Deck Say After a Full Summer?
Summer puts your deck through more than you might realize.
Months of grilling, outdoor furniture, family gatherings, rain, strong sun and everyday foot traffic can leave behind signs of wear that are easy to overlook.
September is a good time to take a closer look.
Check for boards that have changed color or texture, loose or moving railings, worn areas around stairs, water-damaged spots, and anything that feels different from the beginning of the season. Not every sign of wear means your deck needs major work, but some problems can become much more expensive if they are ignored.
A deck can still look great while developing issues that are less obvious from a distance.
Before summer is completely behind us, take a few minutes to see what your deck is telling you.
