What a lovely evening spent celebrating the (almost) completion of this terrific project. What started as a 2020 project became a 2-phase project to deftly handle COVID impacts on educating kids in person. More pictures to come of the completed classrooms (when the final furniture arrives and the pupils are settled).

It can embrace or corrode our ability to cope with everyday challenges. It can steal our autonomy or give us the freedom to thrive. It can offer a navigable environment, or it can create a series of impossible gauntlets that wear us down daily. The messages encoded in architecture and systems can foster a sense of mastery or helplessness. The good city should be measured not only by its distractions and amenities but also by how it affects this everyday drama of survival, work, and meaning.

Bureau Gemmell is so glad that our mission-based practice allows us to partner with clients at the forefront of change and action. Our clients at New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist and the MAAFA Redemption Project are helping to re-shape the lives of young black men and the urban environment of West Garfield Park.

This purpose gives us hope.
