Please help out our neighbors if you're able.

This is the house of our neighbor in Logan Square, Amanda. A fire tore through it at 11 pm last night and gutted it. Amanda and her 2 twin daughters are now staying in a shelter as they lost everything they owned. 😔

We want to help them as they figure out their next steps. BOTH ROSIE'S LOCATION - Logan Square and Schaumburg - will be a collection point for clothes and personal care items.

Do you have any gently used items that you can donate? 👚👖👟🪥🪒The daughters are a size 4T and Amanda is a petite woman, size 3 pants and small or medium tops.

How to keep pipes from freezing in cold weather

Water expands when it freezes, so when water in your home pipes start to expand, it has nowhere else to go and can cause your pipes to burst. When the temperature begins to drop, follow these tips from AccuWeather to keep your pipes from freezing:

Drip your faucet. Just a small drip or stream can be enough to help prevent damage.

Open the cabinet doors beneath your sink so room temperature air can warm the pipes.

Make sure your heat is on, even overnight. Your heating costs may go up, but the damage from a burst pipe is worse.

Cover outdoor faucets with something protective. Add more insulation to attics, basements and crawl spaces.

Frost on your pipes could mean that they are frozen. If your faucet has a small amount of water coming out or none at all, it is also likely frozen. Do not use an open flame to thaw frozen pipes and faucets; you can use an electric heater, but monitor it to make sure it doesn't get wet

SMALL PLUMBING TIP: Disconnect garden hoses and drain outdoor pipes to prevent damage during the winter. During cold snaps, if a garden hose is left connected, ice can form and pressure can build up in the water lines inside your home. Once this occurs, a water line leak or break could occur and cause severe damage to the home.
