Spotted lantern fly is a potentially serious plant hopper, native to Eastern Asia that feeds on many ag plants and trees including grape, tree of heaven, and maple. While isolated pockets have been found in Chicagoland, it is not believed to be established in northern Illinois. Fortunately, this one was not seen here in the US but while I was visiting a beautiful temple in China.
