Chicago Locksmith Recent Work - Rogers Park Multi-Unit Building Lock Upgrade
This six-unit residential building had an older mortise lock where the threaded k**b and spindle repeatedly stripped out, allowing the handle to pull straight off the door.
Although the hardware had been replaced multiple times over the years, the same issue kept returning because the original design remained the weak point.
We upgraded the entry to a commercial-grade mortise lock with lever handles attached directly to the trim assembly instead of threaded onto the spindle - creating a far more durable and reliable setup for a high-traffic building.
Additional improvements included:
Remodeler plates to cover previous hardware holes
Increased backset from 2-1/2" to 2-3/4"
Improved tenant usability and door clearance
Stronger commercial-grade security hardware

Customer needed a sturdy, keyed solution for a new property gate. The existing latch was broken and couldn’t lock from the outside.

What we did:
• Installed a double-hole gate box
• Added a single deadbolt + passage k**b
• Welded and aligned the box to the post
• Drilled strike holes for proper latch engagement
• Reinforced the fence panel with an added support plate
• Trimmed and reinstalled wood panels
• Primed the box and strike - ready for paint

Now the gate locks securely and operates smoothly.

We were called to a West Side Chicago office where the main door was dragging and not lining up with the electric strike.

Our solution:
• Installed a full-length heavy-duty hinge
• Realigned the door to eliminate drag
• Replaced the lock body and interior paddle

Now the door closes smoothly and locks securely.

Today at Chicago Locksmiths, we had a master padlock key that wasn’t turning properly. After inspecting it, we found the key head was hitting the rivets.

A quick adjustment shaved it down and it worked perfectly.
