🐾☀️ The Dog Days of Summer Are Almost Here! ☀️🐾
As we head into the hottest part of the year, you’ve probably heard the phrase “the dog days of summer.” While many people think it refers to lazy dogs lounging in the shade, the term actually dates back thousands of years. It comes from the ancient Greeks and Romans, who noticed that Sirius—also known as the “Dog Star”—rose alongside the sun during the hottest weeks of summer. They believed its presence contributed to the intense heat of the season.
Whether or not Sirius has anything to do with the temperatures, one thing is certain—it’s getting hot out there.
As the days get longer and the temperatures climb, it’s important to take care of ourselves, our families, and especially our four-legged friends. Make sure your dogs have plenty of fresh, cool water, access to shade, and a comfortable place to escape the heat. Remember that hot pavement can burn sensitive paws, and even a short time in excessive heat can be dangerous.
