This courtyard patio turned out so fun and lovely. It nicely ties together the space between the back porch and the garage, making an inviting cove that will soon be surrounded by a lush border of plants. It provides a fun pathway to the back yard and a unique zone to enjoy the shade.

Another native-scape. Native plants are the way to go! When this fills out, it will be buzzing with cute bugs and birds. These plants will regenerate soil health with their root depth and shade. It will truly be so much more lively than a lawn. Lots of these plants spread to create groundcover, and there’s shrubs in there that will start filling out much more by next year.

This project from a couple years ago has been growing in nicely. We used a ground cover, Ruschia nana, instead of sod. It’s very drought tolerant, fast growing, and holds up to foot traffic well. Has a nice texture on bare feet too :)

Here’s the latest blooms from this lawn to garden mostly native project installed last fall. Before photos at the end.

Here’s a sweet lawn conversion I did in the fall. From one big rectangular lawn to a wide beachy dry creekbed with boulder fountain, native plant areas, new shade trees, expanded veggie garden, and lots of functional path space! Utilized sheet mulching method and reutilized existing pavers and edging. This one turned out really cool. Need to go back to get some pictures with more green on the trees and hopefully catch some blooms :)

Last year this was a lawn! Now it is full of natives and veggie beds. The monkey flower, ceanothus, and hummingbird sage are blooming beautifully. Other natives included in this dappled sun area are: yarrow, wild strawberry, pink currant, heuchera, deer grass, mahonia and toyon.
