Let’s keep things balanced!

This summer, we’re putting a big emphasis on water balance — pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and CYA/stabilizer — because your chemicals work best when everything is working together.

Everything that goes into your pool has an impact, including your chlorine. For example, Jumbo Tabs have a lower pH, which helps keep more chlorine available in the water. That is not a bad thing — but it will lower your pH and alkalinity overtime, which is why we target your alkalinity for 120 PPM.

That’s why we ask questions during a water test. We know these products, how they interact, and how different routines affect your pool. The more we know about what you’re using, the better we can help you build a maintenance routine that makes sense for your pool.

We recommend testing at home weekly and stopping in for a full water test at least 3 times this summer so we can help keep your pool clear, balanced, and safer for your family.

Ready to get to know your pool a little better?

Basic test kits usually only check chlorine and pH, which are important, but they are not the whole story. Your pool also has other levels that matter, including alkalinity, calcium hardness, and CYA/stabilizer.

That’s why we carry Taylor K-1005 test kits for residential pools.

This kit is more advanced than a basic chlorine and pH kit, and yes, it is a little more expensive — but it gives you a fuller picture of what is happening in your pool between in-store water tests.

An in-store test still comes with our years of experience, interpretation, and personalized recommendations, but testing at home helps you catch small changes before they become big problems.

Your pool is a major investment. You should probably get to know it.

Your responsibility doesn’t end when you bring us a water sample. A water test gives us a snapshot of your pool chemistry at that moment, but keeping your family safe depends on what happens at home too.

Testing your pool weekly helps you keep an eye on chlorine and pH, two of the most important factors in safe swimming water. When chlorine is too low, the water may not be properly sanitized. When pH is out of range, the water can become uncomfortable for swimmers and harder for chlorine to do its job.

Running and cleaning your filter, brushing, vacuuming, and keeping up with regular maintenance all help keep your pool safer, clearer, and more enjoyable.

Your pool is meant to be used, enjoyed, and shared with the people you love. Take care of the water, and it will take care of your summer fun!

If you’re reading this, it’s probably time to clean your cartridge or DE filter.

If your pool is staying green or cloudy even though you’re shocking, the problem may not be the shock — it may be your filter.

A dirty filter cannot properly remove everything your chlorine is killing. So before you blame the water test, the shock, the weather, Mercury in retrograde, or the poor lab employee just trying to help you… clean the filter.
