Wiregrass Understory Burning 🔥

In the past few weeks we have performed some growing season burns in a few of our plantations that had wiregrass understory in order to aid in seed production.

Wiregrass must be burned between May and July for optimal seed production and subsequent proliferation.

"The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Florida announces Fiscal Year 2026 (October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026) financial assistance opportunities for agricultural producers and forestry operations through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).

While NRCS accepts applications year-round, Florida producers and landowners should apply no later than Oct. 3, 2025, to be considered for funding in the FY2026 current cycle. If applications are received after the signup period for FY2026, applications will automatically be considered during future funding cycles.

Applications are available at your local USDA Service Center or online"

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is NRCS’ flagship conservation program that helps farmers, ranchers and forest landowners integrate conservation into working lands.

This week we’re out working on some longwood and pre commercial thinnings. Chipping prices are holding strong, so it’s a good window to get a first thinning completed to help your timber stand transition into a larger and more profitable timber class.

We’ve also got room for more skid steer work this month — understory mitigation, trail access, fire lanes, you name it. If your property could use a little cleanup or prep, we’re ready to roll.

Reforestation season is upon us now. We’ve already started some of our chemical site preparation so if you’re interested in replanting this winter contact us to help you get things started.
