Don’t Pay $7,000–$12,000 for a 200 Amp Service Upgrade
If you’ve gotten a quote for a 200 amp electrical service upgrade lately, you may have experienced a little sticker shock.
I remember when I started my business, I could complete a service upgrade for around $1,200. Those days are long gone—material costs alone make that impossible today. It feels like I’m sounding like my parents: “When I was your age, a Coke cost a quarter.” But the reality is these price increases didn’t happen over 20 years. Much of it happened in just the last few years.
Unfortunately, another factor is driving prices even higher.
Many of the large companies you see on billboards, TV, and radio have enormous advertising budgets, large office staffs, and sales teams. Those costs have to be paid somehow—and they’re often built into the price you receive.
Recently, a homeowner called me after receiving an inspection report while selling their house. The electrical issue was minor and easily repairable. Before calling me, they had received a quote from one of the large companies for $8,700 to replace their entire service. Not only was a full replacement unnecessary, but if a service upgrade had actually been needed, my price would have been around $4,000.
At RDK Electrical Service, we don’t have expensive billboards or high-pressure salespeople. We focus on doing quality work at a fair price.
Most of our 200 amp service upgrades are completed for $3,500–$4,500, including:
