Today was the 10 year anniversary of the first leak detection job for my company that I began in August of 2013. I remember being nervous and hoping everything would work out. Well, 10 years later, Reliable Leak Detection is a two-man company. I work with James, who joined last year and has been in training and will be going out on his own jobs soon! I wanted to train him for a full year so that he's able to handle just about any job with full confidence.
We have a tremendous amount of respect for the plumbers who trust their clients with us and for our clients with who we work directly. Every job has to be the best we can do. Thanks to everyone who has supported us the last 10 years! We appreciate your business!

I received a review from a client who had multiple leaks. I worked with the plumber to provide a creative option that solved both leaks and replaced 85 feet of 35 year old "blue max" piping. This was done by pulling a new line through the foundation wall and out to the other side of the private drive. Their home is on a private drive with a 300 ft long water service, and this was the second time I had been called to the home, with the prior leak detection with the previous owner. You can see the client's review below:

"Brandt was a complete breath of fresh air to work with. It's obviously a stressful time when you have a water leak on your property, but Brandt couldn't have been more friendly, helpful, knowledgeable or professional and somehow managed to make the whole experience a pleasant one. After talking with him for just a few minutes, we felt like we had known him for years. He explained exactly what he was going to do to find the leak and was able to quickly detect and mark its location. He even went as far as to explain what options plumbers would likely offer to fix the problem and explained the pros and cons of each. I can't recommend Reliable Leak Detection enough. Thanks so much!"

I received an Email from one of my clients, JD White, who had a water leak in a 400 ft long water service. -The leaking water line wandered along a tree lined back yard, through the woods and under a creek before rising 30 ft up to the water meter.

"We dug right where you placed the blue “X” and that is where we found the leak in the line. There was lots of water in the ground so every time I got the water out of the pit, more water came in. As of today there is no leak and the water around the line is drying up.

THANK YOU FOR FINDING THE LEAK!"

I was called out to a Cincinnati hotel job that was still under construction to perform a sanitary drain leak detection using helium tracer gas. The plumber had a sanitary drain that wouldn't pass the final pressure test. Unfortunately, the concrete had already been poured, so I needed to hunt down the leak with helium tracer gas. They had already attempted to find the leak with drain a drain camera, but it was a small leak and not able to be seen by the camera.

The helium tracer gas process involves drilling through the concrete, following the path of the main drain and branches, roughly every 2-3 ft. We drilled roughly 60 holes throughout and ran the helium at a very low pressure so we wouldn't blow out the "balloons" that hold the pressure in different parts of the system, as well as blow out the helium, which quickly expands and can give false readings. We only needed to test half of the system as the other half was holding. I used an electronic helium detector to hunt down the leak and was able to nail it down to a "Y" fitting in the main drain. The plumber, Bill Maag with WB Services, was very happy with the results and was kind enough to make a picture (See video on fb) and email it to me for this blog. -See attached.

The video shows the results of the leak detection. The plumber was able to dig straight down and found the leak right where it was located. You can hear the air blowing out the hole when he touches it with his finger!
