Recently opened in the arcadedayton, Smales Pretzel Bakery is a fifth-generation pretzel bakery in Dayton, OH. This location is special, as it is the second time Smales’s has had a shop in the Historic Arcade in the bakery’s 120 year history.

We designed the space layering classic, traditional materials to call to the bakery’s past, in a new, contemporary twist, celebrating the future of the bakery and the newly reopened Arcade.

Working with local specialty tradespeople on custom painted gradient walls and window painting Ink & Hammer Mfg. Co., neon lighting from Neonworks, custom wallpaper designed by Val Smith and woodworking from Cincinnati Wood Collaborative, the small space is a celebration of local artistry that reflects the values of Smale’s Pretzels

We are excited to share some ongoing construction photos for our Witler Residences, 3 single family homes we have been working on with

Each house has the same footprint but is rotated or mirrored, creating three unique homes from the same massing. Developed from the irregular lot lines of the site, the footprint creates equitable, spacious interiors and a dynamic street front.

House #3 is fully framed, House #2 is framed to the second floor, House #1 has foundations poured—a glimpse into each stage of the shell construction.

Very Important Point / under construction

We designed this backyard renovation off of the outline of an existing pool that is going through repairs and upgrades

RED: The major construction lines come from a point where the edges of the pool converge, dictating the bounds of the project, column lines for the new storage room and exterior walls, and control joints for the concrete pad.

BLUE: the existing house defines the major thoroughfare through the space—a boardwalk—and the outdoor dining area.

YELLOW: Shapes intersect the boardwalk to specific areas like the pool, the outdoor shower/storage room, outdoor kitchen, and the landscaped yard edge.
