Due to the widespread storm damage throughout the Greater Cincinnati area, our call response times may be slower than usual. All Queen City Arborists crews and arborists are currently deployed assisting emergency departments and local municipalities with hazardous trees, blocked roadways, and storm-related emergencies.

If you see mushrooms growing at the base of your tree, that can indicate internal decay.
Not all fungi are catastrophic, but some mean structural compromise.
Get it evaluated just to be safe.

A lot of homeowners underestimate root damage.
Construction, trenching, or heavy equipment within the drip line can destabilize a tree years later.

Dead trees don’t “get stronger.”
They get brittle.
If it doesn’t leaf out fully this spring, it’s already declining.
The price goes up with dying trees as they are more hazardous to remove and climb.

If you just moved into a house with mature trees, schedule a hazard evaluation within the first year.
Previous owners rarely disclose structural defects in trees.

With spring storms on the way,
here is a quick test for storm risk:
Stand back and look at your tree’s canopy. If 60% of the weight leans over your house, you have risk exposure.
Trees rarely fail straight down.
They fail towards lean and weight.

This pine was a few good storms away from splitting onto the homeowner’s garage.
From the ground it looked “fine.” From the canopy, it was cracked 35% through the codominant union.
