Carruth Home Solutions was requested to come out to the town of Dixon, CA to look at home to give a bid for siding repairs. There were 3 building on 1 property. Detached garage, hobby house and main home.
The homeowner told us that a few contractors had been contacted over the spring and summer of this year. (One of them even scraped some of the walls for whatever reason and never got back in contact with the owners).
The house was built in 1950. New retrofit windows were installed about 10 years ago. They were NOT installed correctly which caused dry rot within the walls. Poor applications of improper prep and painting methods over the years was another leading cause of the siding planks having dry rot.
We had to open sections of the walls, recalculate the wall load, reframe the walls, and redesigned the application of existing windows to reuse them for this renovation to help keep costs down.
We added insulation in the walls of the hobby house and fixed some of the attic insulation while the walls were open.
New crawl door for under the house to make it blend in.
Newly designed window trim work and installed Hardie Plank concrete composite lap siding (has a 50-year warranty and will never rot and is fire retardant).
(In addition to these notes, we changed out some bad siding and added a window to the side of the garage not shown here. Fixed a water heater gas leak and repaired a reverse osmosis plumbing line).
The homeowner was near tears at how modern the house became.

Taking a moment to look back at 2023. This was part of a project we did up in Colfax, CA. This home is 1 of 3 structures we fixed on the property. We dang near used all of every trade knowledge we have in our tool bags of expertise. There was a large amount of dry rot damage to the lower floor back wall. We had to support the home, remove, and rebuild 52 feet of walls, windows, door and decking. Rebuild the wall, rebuild / remodel the lower bathroom. New flooring, tile, sheetrock, windows, casings, trim, plumbing fixtures, HVAC system, railings and more. Take a look.
