Ludema & Boyink Sod Farm

Ludema & Boyink Sod Farm Ludema and Boyink Sod Farm was started in 1967 by Joe Ludema. Of our 300 acre farm about 1/2 of the sod is ready to cut each year.

The business has been in the family ever since, and is currently ran by Joe & Tisha Boyink (grandson of Joe Ludema) Our sod is fertilized and sprayed for w**ds on a monthly basis to make it thick, dark green and w**d free. Regular mowing every 3-4 days is also very important; this is the most time consuming task of sod care. With the other 1/2 in its maturing stage or ready to be seeded. It takes

about 9 months for the sod to be ready to be harvested. We have three semi-tractors that can haul from 11,200 to 14,000 sq ft each, while at the same time carrying a hi-lo to unload the sod and spot it around the area to be sodded. We are well known with landscape professionals through-out Southwestern Michigan for our flexible scheduling and on-time deliveries.

I had the pleasure of meeting this young man this morning when I went to pick up my sod order from Ludema & Boyink Sod Farm. I drove down some dirt backroads to the field where they were cutting sod and CJ here, who is 13 and obviously not at school today, loaded me by hand. Why is CJ not at school today? Because this is a family farm and they had a lot of orders going out today. He had been at it since 4am and still had a smile on his face. Kids like him give me hope for the future of our country. Hard working, great customer service.... seriously, CJ, you are an amazing individual! CJ doesn’t have a FB account but I’m sure his folks will show him this, so I just wanted him, them, and the world to know how much I enjoyed and appreciated meeting this hard working kid.
