August. By far the worst flower farming month (and year) of my career but I still managed to have fun.

I have no pictures of me nor the good times I had, though.

Nothing to do with flowers, but everything to do with life and living it to the fullest.

Road trip with my girls and one of their besties to see Noah Kahan—whose music has been the soundtrack to my garden (and life) the past few years. One of the best concerts I've ever experienced.

You Butter Believe We Pulled It Off. 🧈💛

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn... but my heart is FULL and my cup truly runneth over! I love these two, and I loved every minute of celebrating them and their upcoming nuptials.

My daughters and I accomplished quite a task together and, if I do say so myself, we make a pretty great team. We each have our own specific strengths, and over the years we've learned how to use them to our fullest advantage.

If you guessed correctly, the theme was butter—as in "You Butter Believe We're Getting Married," "My Butter Half," and more butter puns than I care to admit. 😊

I enlisted the help of SarahRuth Owens of SarahRuth's Sourdough Etc., and she absolutely knocked it out of the park. She created sourdough boules, French bread, scones, cinnamon rolls, corn muffins, homemade butters, and delicious glazes that fit the theme perfectly.

All of the décor was hand-drawn and created by Abbye, and believe me when I say we've had sticks of butter all over the house for weeks now. She collected empty milk cartons, butter boxes, and anything else she could repurpose. She wrapped, hot-glued the ends (because real butter sticks aren't taped!), painted, and hand-lettered every detail turning them into centerpieces alongside the flowers and childhood photos of the bride and groom. Her creativity and attention to detail are truly awe-inspiring.

Miranda has the organizational skills of an air traffic controller. She kept us on task, packed three vehicles with everything we needed, ran countless last-minute errands, and took care of every final detail—even down to the perfect playlist.

And of course, I had the joy of designing the flowers to bring the whole vision together.

Most importantly, I am so grateful to everyone who celebrated alongside us. It meant more than you know. Thank you for showering these two with so much love. Your presence, generosity, and encouragement made the day truly special.

We are incredibly blessed, and if this celebration is any indication, these two are beginning their marriage surrounded by people who love them dearly. What more could a mother ask for?

I enlisted SarahRuth's Sourdough Etc. to create some of her sourdough goodies for my son and future daughter-in-law’s bridal shower today. Best decision I’ve made in a while!! The five varieties of butter she made were over the top! Can’t recommend her enough!!

What’s a flower farming season without a good setback? I mean…come on.

Let’s reflect for a moment.

I experienced what I bitterly refer to as “Hydro-Gate” several years ago, where I lost more than 3,000 hydroponic tulips. I’ve had an actual hurricane cut my dahlia season short. I’ve battled oppressive drought that stunted and delayed my dahlia field. I’ve had so much rain that it ruined spring crops. I survived a herbicide fiasco that wiped out hundreds of dahlias just last year. And now? Now I’ve got a Japanese beetle infestation that’s reminiscent of the eighth plague of Egypt.

I’ve been ready to throw in the towel more times than I can count lately. But then I remember that patience is a virtue, and all good things come to those who wait.

So while I deal with the beetles that apparently decided to make my flower fields their permanent residence while I was on vacation, I appreciate your patience. In past years, the dahlia field hasn’t really hit its stride until late July or early August, so we’re actually still on track for a fabulous—and hopefully bountiful—late summer and fall.

Until then, we’ll keep foraging and making as many bouquets as possible with what the Lord...and the beetles...allow.

Despite annoying you 300+ days out of the year… she’s still your person.

The one you call with good news, bad news, or just to hear a familiar voice.

And somehow, Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away. (I know… how?)

So let’s celebrate the moms, the bonus moms, the grandmothers, and the ones who show up like moms.
Mother’s Day offerings are officially live on the website.

This year’s options include mason jar arrangements (perfect if you’ve got multiple moms to love on) along with a few larger bouquet options.

And for those who need it—Mother’s Day isn’t easy for everyone.

If you’re missing your mom or quietly carrying a lot this season, this is your permission to buy yourself the flowers. No reason needed.

I’ve had to pick and choose my battles this week—and just like with kids and husbands, flowers are no different.

To get all of my dahlia tuber orders out (🎉), something had to give… and for a couple of days, it’s the fresh bouquets.

So, the Petal Porch will be closed briefly while I get every order packed up and on its way.

But don’t worry—once everything ships, we’ll be right back to our regularly scheduled program… and peonies are up next.

Tulip season is winding down, and what a beautiful run it’s been. The field tulips had their moment in the sun, and now we’re savoring the last few varieties of our indoor forced blooms.

One of the final standouts is this creamy little gem. It came in as a substitute for a longtime favorite yellow of mine, and honestly… it surprised me in the best way. It leans more soft cream than yellow, with the prettiest raspberry-kissed edges—reminding me so much of Belicia (truly the gold standard, if you ask me).

If you’re a sucker for those soft, romantic tones with just a hint of drama, this one’s for you. And consider this your gentle nudge—once these last stems are gone, tulip season will officially close its doors for the year.
