Today we celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marking June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom.

Although President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, the news did not reach Texas until more than two years later, when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston and announced General Order No. 3.

Now recognized as a federal holiday, Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, and the long fight for justice. ❤️👏🏾🙏🏾
