If the plumber tells you you have Orangeburg pipe for your sewer lateral this is what they're talking about, it is basically tar paper pipe. It gets smashed by roots torn very easily and changes its shape just like these pieces show. We have done four replacements in the last month and a half for exactly this reason

Getting those copper lines perfectly spaced and the wiring organized isn't just about "looking pretty", it makes the system much easier to service down the road and ensures every zone in the house gets the exact amount of heat it needs.

It took some extra time to dial in the venting and the expansion tank placement, but the result is a system that’s quiet, efficient, and built to last.

Double-checking the basics!

Before I pulled the old igniter, I wanted to make sure it was actually getting the 120V it needs from the control board. The meter shows we’ve got power, which confirms the igniter itself is definitely the problem. It’s always better to test than to guess!

We just finished setting up this Navien tankless unit paired with a Halo Water System!

Most people think about hot water and filtration as two separate things, but they actually work better together.

The Halo system filters out the minerals and chlorine that usually build up and "kill" appliances, meaning this Navien is going to run at peak efficiency for a long, long time. Endless hot water that's actually good for your skin and your pipes, hard to beat that!

💡 Pro Tip: If you're upgrading to a tankless system, always ask about your water hardness. Tankless units have narrow passages that can scale up quickly in hard water. A good filter is like an insurance policy for your new heater!

Switching gears over to a boiler system!

We had a shorted zone valve that unfortunately took out the zone controller, too. Everything is brand new now, and as you can hear, the system is back in its rhythm. The boiler is firing, the pumps are circulating, and the heat is flowing!

💡 Pro Tip: If some rooms in your house are warm but others are freezing, you might have a zone valve that’s stuck shut. Feel the pipes near your boiler, if one is cold while the others are hot, that’s a big clue!

💡 Pro Tip: Just like your console, your furnace needs to breathe! Keep the area around it clear of boxes and clutter so it doesn't "overheat" and shut down.
