As a Speedbowl historian, it's bittersweet to see the original grandstands torn down after 68 seasons. In our interviews for the , there have been countless interviewees who talked about growing up at the track and running around behind the grandstands as kids. I was one of those kids too in the early 1980's. Hard to imagine just how many coats of paint or pieces of lumber have been replaced over the years. It'll be interesting to see what it will look like when it's all completed. We took a screenshot of our footage of the track being built in 1951 and tried to match it up from the same spot on the midway where the pic the Speedbowl posted earlier tonight was taken. Check it out!
