📣Final call snow totals!
No significant changes to our original snow forecast as things seem to be in track today. Snow will continue to fill in through the morning with the heaviest snow trending between 11:00am and 4:00pm ET today. Snow will begin to move out of the state this evening and should be completely out by midnight outside of a few lake effect snow showers.

Winds will pick up once again tonight behind this clipper system as an arctic cold front moves through. Gusts to 20-25mph expected causing blowing and drifting snoe tonight. Snow that falls will be light and fluffy which is easily blown around.

⚠️Updated snow totals!
The systems track is now beginning to be locked in as highest confidence in the highest snow totals being along and north of US-24. On that note high uncertainty exists for areas south of Lafayette to Fort Wayne. Rain is expected to mix in later but where exactly that change over occurs and how much is the question and may not be known until the event. Fort Wayne may even see split totals with higher totals on the North side of town vs the south side. For this uncertainty we have left totals lower south of US-24 but the potential for higher amounts. All of this is depending on where the rain/snow line develops. This is a very impressive system for this time of year! This would be a notable system for January but here we are!

Travel impacts are likely tomorrow afternoon into Sunday morning. Especially across Northern Indiana.

Timing:
This system will start as all snow tomorrow morning with light snow moving into Northern Indiana by early/mid-morning. The snow will pick up in intensity by mid-afternoon through Sunday morning. Snow begins to transition to rain for central Indiana by Saturday evening around 7:00pmET. This system exits Indiana by 5:00am ET Sunday morning. Cold air filters in behind this sysyem and black ice may be problematic for motorists!

Technical transparency:
We are basing this forecast on a 12:1 ratio based on high amounts of moisture with this system. Something important to note is that this will be a very wet snow. This may lead to early compaction or a slushy layer to develop on the bottom of the snowpack. This may lead to a thinner snow pack. For example 8" may fall but the snow pack may only be 6" due to how heavy it is.
