San Joaquin and Sierra Railroad The San Joaquin & Sierra Railroad is a G gauge garden railroad established in 2009. Watch for open house weekends and holiday celebrations!

The San Joaquin & Sierra RR operates using AirWire 900 remote control and Phoenix sound. Engines are electric with a roster of 1:20.3 engines [2 Shay's, 1 Climax and GE 45-ton center cab diesel] and 1:29 engines [2 SD 40-2's, S4 Alco and James The Red Engine]. The layout generally represents the 1930's through the 1980's and is mostly rural in nature. Buildings are made of either detailed welded s

teel or precision board construction. Switches are pneumatically controlled. All vegetation is real and watered using drip irrigation.

What a blessing today’s Open House was! Perfect weather, excited rail fans (many 1st timers!), San Joaquin Garden Railway Society members Karl and Bette Berquist and their 4-4-0 Grizzly Flats RR train, and a special guest appearance by Andy and JR from the Yosemite Valley Live Steamers. They ran a beautiful Accucraft live steam 2-truck Shay!! Let’s do it all again tomorrow! 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

For whatever reason, Facebook won't allow me to create an event for the second day for our Open House, so I'll do it this way: Sunday, May 11 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Admission is free! Light refreshments will be available. Enjoy Mrs. Wilson's epic Scavenger Hunt.

The good news you've all been waiting for! After extensive repairs to all 13 of the switches, the El Prado Depot will be reconnected and ready for final testing of the switches. If successful, we will proceed with preparing for our Spring Open House, tenatively scheduled for May 10 and 11 from 12:00 to 3:00. The Plant Manager sincerely regrets not keeping our Rail Fans updated on this progress. HR will be speaking with her about this issue, and we will expect more timely communication in the future.
