Every artist has a medium they work with. Painters have paint, stone masons have granite, writers have ink and paper and musicians have instruments.

To Gillett Excavating, ours is DIRT.

There is an art to moving mass amounts of earth similarly to the art of finish grading and shaping the ground. The company goal was to stand out in performance and quality when others lacked in care or attention. When you are devoted to learning and building your craft, you become an artist of the medium of choice.

We are looking for skilled operators and a mass earthwork foreman whose medium is DIRT. True earthmovers know that operating isn't just running a machine—it’s an art form. If you're driven by pride in your work and looking for a crew that cares about performance as much as you do, Gillett Excavating is hiring.

Whats your favorite part of watching or working in the construction site?

To Gillett Exc. Leadership, its watching our team work diligently together to build our customers dreams. It's watching pipe being put in the ground with speed and precision or earth being shaped and taking form of the final product.

We are blessed to work with awesome customers, with a great team of hard working people, and some large heavy equipment!

Meet Jimmy.

This picture was taken almost 10 years ago.

Jimmy started as a laborer and heavy equipment operator. Over the years Jimmy worked side by side the owner, climbing his way up the ladder from laborer, to operator, to assistant foreman, to pipe foreman, and is currently next in line to becoming a pipe superintendent.

Jimmy is a critical part of the companys success and culture. His main goal is to push as much production as possible while holding an extremely high standard of quality, a dying skill in the industry. His hobbies consist of spending time with his family and hunting and fishing.

We are extremely proud to call Jimmy a part of our team.

Did you know, on an average day one of our mass earthwork teams can move up to 6,000 bank yards of dirt?

Fun fact, that is:

- 202 Gravel Train loads
- 338 Quad Axle Lead loads
- 675 Triaxle Dump Truck loads
- 1,500 50 Ton Excavator buckets

Not everyday looks like this, but when it does, life is good 😎

When this bucket comes out, you know we are fixing to move a lot of dirt, fast.

Heres a look at our topsoil operation. Simple and efficient. We put our efforts in moisture conditioning the soil and ensuring that the composition is the right mix of sand and clay loam for a consistent and nutritious soil.

We have been building and refining our operation for 4 years now and are establishing our name as a consistent and quality topsoil provider in the St Clair County Area.

Great work by our operator James on this recently completed pond cleanup for a returning customer.

This specific project included dredging and stockpiling spoils. The customer wanted to finish grade the spoils themselves but that didnt mean we leave it like a bomb went off. Leveling the spoils off only enhanced the experience for the customer with faster drying times and easier area to work later.

We take tremendous pride in balancing large commercial developments alongside local residential projects. Bringing a mix of larger commercial sized equipment, dialed efficiency, and tight precision to private properties allows us to deliver exceptional results no matter the scale of the job.
