November 10, 1973, is known as one of the saddest days in country music history. That day, Grand Ole Opry and "Hee Haw" star David "Stringbean" Akeman and his wife, Estelle, were killed at their rural Tennessee home. Their deaths shattered the country music community and forever changed how country artists lived and handled their personal security. Ramona Jones, the wife of Stringbean's dear friend, Grandpa Jones, once said, "It was devastating. A sad time. A trying time. I don’t think you ever get over something like that. Our lives were never the same after that." 💔
