Social media has folks thinking everybody with a dozer, excavator, or dump truck is making money hand over fist.
The truth?
A lot of us are one major breakdown away from having a really bad month.
People see the equipment.
They don’t see the bank note on it.
They see us loading up for a job.
They don’t see the insurance bill, fuel bill, repairs, maintenance, permits, payroll, or the weeks rain keeps us parked while every payment still comes due.
This industry isn’t for the weak.
Then you’ve got people with little to no experience buying a machine and calling themselves contractors. They throw out prices that don’t even cover the cost of doing the job right, and customers jump on it because it’s “saving money.”
Until the job starts washing away.
Until the drainage doesn’t work.
Until the pad settles.
Until the road falls apart.
Until they can’t get the contractor back on the phone.
Then they’re paying somebody else to do it right.
The cheapest bid is rarely the cheapest job.
There’s a reason some companies have been around for years and others disappear after a season.
Reputation isn’t built by being the cheapest.
It’s built by showing up, doing quality work, standing behind it, and treating people right.
Support the contractors who have put in the years, learned the trade, and earned their name. In this business, experience isn’t an extra. It’s everything.
