It has come to our attention that there is some unknown information about our market. These kit pergolas that are super inexpensive are that way for a reason. We use T-6 6061 aluminum for our structures because of its light weight rigidity. Most of the kit structures you see are using T5-6063 aluminum which has smaller span capabilities and deflects (bends) drastically more.

Why is this an issue?
The louvers especially deflect under load which happens anytime it rains or snows. Now they might not break but the problem is in the runoff. It will seep through to your space. A heavy rain will definently overflow. Another problem with these structures are the level gutters. A heavy rain will overflow and splash into your space. There is a reason they don't market as waterproof.

Second, if you span any distance over 15 ft with 6063 beams, there will be a noticeable deflection or dip. Now this may work for smaller designs but over time that deflection may get worse.
