⚰️🎃 COFFIN RACES IN MANITOU SPRINGS?!

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? One of our area's most unique traditions is back!

The Emma Crawford Coffin Races are happening this Saturday, October 24, in Manitou Springs!

Teams dressed in creative costumes will be racing their decorated coffins down Manitou Avenue. It's a little spooky, a little crazy, and a whole lot of Colorado fun! 👻

👻 SPOOKY PLUMBING STORIES — EPISODE 1 👻

🔊 WHAT'S THAT NOISE?!

It's late at night. The house is quiet.

Then suddenly...

BANG! 💥

Something is knocking inside the walls.

A toilet flushes when nobody's around. 🚽

A drain makes a strange gurgling sound.

Is your house haunted?! 😱

Probably not! 😂

Those mysterious sounds can have very real plumbing explanations. Banging pipes can be caused by water hammer, gurgling drains can signal drainage or venting problems, and a toilet that seems to flush itself may have a leaking flapper.

🚰 WELL SYSTEMS & YARD HYDRANTS | Is Yours Ready for Winter?

If you live on acreage, chances are you have a yard hydrant somewhere on your property.

But did you know that even a frost-free yard hydrant can freeze?

Most traditional frost-free hydrants are designed to drain water from the vertical pipe after they're turned off.

However, if they aren't draining properly, water can remain inside and freeze.

Common warning signs include:

🔹 Water continuing to run after shutting it off
🔹 Leaking around the hydrant
🔹 Standing water around its base
🔹 Reduced water flow
🔹 A hydrant that has frozen previously

Different hydrant designs have different operating requirements, so it's important to know what you have.

When preparing your home for colder weather, don't forget about the plumbing in your garage, barn, or shop.

These spaces often have plumbing that's more exposed to freezing temperatures than the plumbing inside your home.

A few things worth checking:

🔹 Sinks and outdoor wash stations
🔹 Yard hydrants
🔹 Plumbing along exterior walls
🔹 Unheated garages and workshops

🔥 WATER HEATER SERIES | Don’t Wait for a Cold Morning

As temperatures drop, nobody wants to discover their water heater is struggling while getting ready for work—or halfway through a shower. 😬

Take a few minutes to look at your water heater and watch for:

🔹 Water collecting around the bottom
🔹 Rust or corrosion
🔹 Unusual noises
🔹 Inconsistent water temperature
🔹 Hot water running out sooner than normal
🔹 A unit approaching or exceeding 8–10 years old

Water or corrosion around a water heater can indicate a leak and shouldn’t be ignored.

That doesn’t automatically mean you need the most expensive replacement available. It means it’s worth understanding what’s happening before a small warning becomes an emergency.

🍂 HOMEOWNER SERIES | Prepare While the Weather Is Nice

The colder weather we’ve already felt was a good reminder that winter isn’t very far away.

We have some beautiful, warm weather ahead this week—which makes this the perfect time to take a quick walk around your property and prepare your outdoor plumbing before Colorado changes its mind again. 😂

Check for:

🔹 Garden hoses still connected
🔹 Outdoor faucets and hose bibs
🔹 Splitters, timers and attachments
🔹 Exposed piping
🔹 Yard hydrants
🔹 Plumbing in garages, barns and shops
🔹 Outdoor sinks or kitchens

Start by disconnecting your hoses and attachments so outdoor faucets can drain properly when freezing temperatures arrive.

You don’t need to wait until the forecast says 28° to figure out what needs attention.

💧 WELL SYSTEM SERIES | Your Well Is More Than Just the Pump

When there’s a problem with your home’s well system, it’s easy to assume:

“The well pump must be going bad.”

But several components work together to move water from your well to the faucets inside your home—including the pressure tank, switches, valves and piping.

Sometimes what feels like a well-pump problem is actually happening somewhere else in the system.

Mountain High Plumbing works on well systems—everything except the actual well pump. We can help diagnose what’s happening and determine whether the problem is within the plumbing system or whether it’s time to call a well-pump specialist.
