We still do the smaller jobs; this was just under 100 feet up in Ellicot, this neighborhood uses 4x6 bevel top posts, all premium cedar

Getting posts.in on this 1200 foot ranch rail fence. Client wanted 5 foot top rails so we used 8 foot 6x6 premium cedar posts.

If you are building a fence, or having a fence built with wood posts there are three types of lumber... absolute worst is fir, next is pressure treated, and the best is cedar.. cedar will be either yellowish or red in color with a rough texture without stamping, fir will be yellow, smooth and have stamping, pressure treated will typically be a darker red or occasionally green, smooth and be stamped... do not use indoor lumber ( fir) in your fence, especially posts, pressure treated is rot resistant but will warp and twist at the worst rate of the 3, USE cedar.. insist on cedar if metal isn't suitable
