How a Clogged Filter Restricts Airflow
To understand the problem, it helps to know how your HVAC system is designed to operate.
The blower motor pulls air through your return ducts and pushes it through the filter. From there, air moves across the heat exchanger in heating mode or the evaporator coil during cooling mode before being distributed throughout your home. When the filter is clean, airflow moves freely.
As dust, pet hair, and airborne debris accumulate, the filter's tiny openings begin to clog. The filter starts acting like a coffee filter that's filled with grounds—air can still pass through, but not efficiently.
As resistance increases:
-Airflow decreases
-Static pressure rises
-The blower motor works harder
-System efficiency drops
Many homeowners first notice weaker airflow from vents or rooms that never seem to reach the desired temperature.
The team at Click Heating and Air is here with honest, no-pressure recommendations, clear pricing, and hometown care for our neighbors throughout El Paso County.
