Flower haul 😍 and my first dahlia of the season; Levi’s Blue Smoke.

The warmer weather changes the color of the petals. Typically Levi’s Blue Smoke has a darker raspberry pink center, but with this crazy heat, it’s a softer pink.

Still gorgeous nonetheless.

Nobody sees this part.

The tiny seed.
The waiting.
The wondering if anything will grow.
The early mornings.
The failures.
The storms.
The starting over.

Then one day… you walk through a field that used to fit in the palm of your hand.

Color is finally starting to arrive at Northern Loon Blooms, and it’s hard not to get excited walking through the garden each day. 🌸✨ The column stock, sweet peas, snapdragons, celosia, cosmos, and so many others are beginning to show off, and after months of planning, planting, and waiting, it’s incredibly rewarding to see it all coming to life.

At the same time, flower farming is a constant lesson in humility. Even in my fourth year, I’m still learning. I spent the last week telling myself I needed to finish staking the dahlias, and then Mother Nature reminded me why that matters. Two strong storms rolled through, and I lost four dahlias when they snapped at the base of their stalks.

It’s disappointing, especially when you’ve poured so much time into every plant, but that’s part of growing flowers. Every season teaches something new, and every mistake becomes experience for the next one.

For now, I’m choosing to focus on the blooms, the progress, and all the color that’s still to come. 💐

One of the many reasons I absolutely love dahlias 🌸

They come in thousands of varieties—no two feel quite the same. From tiny pompons to dinner-plate blooms, soft pastels to bold, moody tones… there’s truly a dahlia for every mood and season.

A few fun facts that make them even more special:
• There are over 40 official dahlia species and tens of thousands of cultivated varieties
• Blooms can range from under 2 inches to over 10 inches wide 😍
• They don’t come in true blue—but just about every other color you can imagine
• Each tuber you plant can multiply, meaning more blooms year after year
• Every single flower is actually made up of many tiny florets (what looks like one bloom is a whole cluster!)

It’s hard not to fall in love with something so wildly diverse and full of personality 💐

We’ve been a little quiet over here… but for a good reason 🌱

Behind the scenes, things have been busy getting ready for flower season. We’ve added a brand new greenhouse (still feels surreal to say that 😅), our flower starts are coming along beautifully, and the dahlias have officially been woken up for the season.

It’s that time of year where everything starts to come back to life—and we’re right in the middle of it. Lots of dirt, early mornings, and excitement over here.

Flower season is coming… and we can’t wait to share it with you 💐
