Some snapshots of Congaree Bluffs Heritage Preserve. We got lost, wandered onto private property and saw our first alligator in a swampy area at which point, Lola got lifted into her doggie sling and we hoofed it to higher, solid, forested ground. 🫣

Met these old, twisted, gnarled Tre Beauties this evening. Tree teachers. Never give up, even if life cuts you down. Keep going. Bloom and be so beautiful you stop motorists, make then bang U-turns to get another look, admire and photograph you.

Simpatico garden companions. Dog fennel popped up. I planted the blunt -toothed mountain mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) behind them and voila. A study in contrasting textures that is deer proof and repels ticks. Try gardening this way. Stop mowing for a while, see who emerges and then add additional native pollinator plants.

My Plant Teachers today. All you need is to find a little patch of Nature, slow TF down and observe. Really take the time to look, even at something cut back, fallen over, w**dy or Goddess forbid, invasive. Inspiration for living in this end stage capitalist, military industrial billionaire mess is everywhere in Nature. Even the asphalt is capable of growing moss. Just add water.

Been driving past this happy, yellow urban wild tick seed for several days now whose home is a concrete traffic median in a major avenue in Columbia, South Carolina. This plucky little tick seed (Coreopsis spp.) rooted here, in a crack on a concrete island in the middle of four lanes of traffic and guess what? This little Plant Being is happy as all get out. Blooming like crazy, not caring about the traffic noise or pollution, just being beautiful and showy and doing their thing where they were planted. Not asking for permission to be gorgeous and yellow. Just doing it. Thank you, little Teacher. 💛⭐🫶
