First look! We're extremely proud to have helped the Riversdale Historical Society present "A Story of Their Own: Voices of the Enslaved Community of Riversdale." This permanent exhibition explores the real lives of the people who built and worked at Riversdale, a plantation house constructed between 1801 and 1807 in Prince George's County, Maryland. The exhibits feature historic artifacts, primary source materials, and thoughtful interpretation that highlights the community's resilience over decades. Whenever we're feeling a little overwhelmed, we just scroll through Port Discovery Children's Museum feed and see the kids having fun in exhibition spaces we've designed. It's a great form of vicarious play! 😍

What does the future of education look like? It starts with giving future educators the opportunity to learn through experience, connection, and play. 💙

This summer, we partnered with Towson University’s College of Education to welcome students into our first Summer Fellow Program, providing hands-on experience in an informal learning environment centered on playful learning.

Throughout their 10-week fellowship, future educators, Kennedi Harris'28 and Chelsey McKee ’28, are exploring how children learn through play, supporting programs, and connecting with children and families throughout the museum.

As fellow Kennedi Harris shared:
“I’m gaining so much experience here in terms of interacting with young learners and their families. Port Discovery is really good at the idea of playful learning, and I want to be sure to incorporate fun play for my future students.”

We are proud to support the next generation of educators and help strengthen the pipeline of professionals who will inspire curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning in classrooms and communities.

We're excited to spotlight "Alive in Many Hands: The American Folklife Center at 50," a new exhibition we designed in collaboration with the Library of Congress! It celebrates America's living cultural traditions with more than 150 objects, archival footage, and rich audio content. From foodways to festivals, from music and dance to the unique stories passed down through generations, it's an exploration of the things that define us as Americans.
