One of the coolest things about being an arborist is being able to visit properties with amazing plant material. This is the American Smokebush, named because of the amazing "smoky" or wispy looking flowers!

Meet the Sox & Freeman Family:

Jeremiah Jensen has been with Sox and Freeman for 20 years. In that time, he has filled many roles and has proven to be a “tree”mendous asset to the company. He has helped build and currently manages our Plant Health Care Division which specializes in the care of trees and shrubs in our urban landscape.

Jeremiah grew up in Kansas and has a Bachelor’s of Science in Natural Resource Management. He and his family have made South Carolina their home since 2004. He is incredible with plants and has made their care and treatment his passion.

Three cool things you may not know about Jeremiah:

He loves to fish and actually travels on a semi-pro fishing circuit. He is the only person I have ever met who actually makes money fishing!

No matter where he is, inside or outside, Jeremiah always knows where the direction North is located.

Jeremiah has the uncanny ability to know when it will start raining. He is like a human barometer. We don’t even check the weather forecast on rain days, we just call Jeremiah and get the lowdown.

We are thrilled that Jeremiah is part of the Sox and Freeman Team. We are a better company because of him, and we appreciate his hard work and service. If you see him around, be sure to say hi and give him a hard time!

I never cease to be amazed at our fantastic stump team. They got into quite a stump today, churned it into a 6 foot mound of chips and by the time they were done that tree was already well on its way to being a distant memory.

Have a stump you would like to see gone? Give us a call!

They bought us a drone! I know, they're out of their minds. Watch as we launch into our new series to see really amazing tree stuff being done in real time or possibly crash a drone. Either way, seems like it'll be pretty entertaining.

This first video is a Pine removal. The crew had already removed the top and were beginning to rig down the trunk wood.

The time has come to burn a weekend getting the lawn ready for Spring/Summer. If you've got an old stump in the way (or a new stump from a tree you're planning on taking out), you've got some options. Let's explore them!

You’ve had your tree removed, either because nature didn’t give you a choice or you simply wanted that old Bradford Pear gone before it split apart and came

I set out to write another blog post about Southern Pine Beetles and ended up with something akin to a Blumhouse horror film, so in lieu of providing you with that horrific masterpiece (subjective), here is an excellent quick article from our friends and neighbors at The South Carolina Forestry Commission with your basics to look out for.

Our mission is to protect, promote, and enhance South Carolina’s forests for the benefit of all.

Meet the Sox & Freeman Family:

We are very happy to introduce to you our newest Plant Health Care Technician Lily. As soon as she joined the team, we very quickly realized she was an incredibly bright and capable individual, and after spending months with our tree care crews, we also found her to be extremely hardworking, detail oriented and invested in her work and were thrilled when she accepted the offer to tackle the role of plant health care technician and we know she will do well by the plants and trees of Columbia and the surrounding areas in that capacity.

We asked Lily to provide a brief bio so she could introduce herself a bit more: My "official" background is in graphic design, but I have always prefered working outdoors. I have worked on ranches in Wyoming, Texas, Georgia, and South Carolina, and will someday own one myself. I started an LLC in 2023 as a solution to allow me to continue expanding on my design skills but not be restricted in my creative freedom and stuck behind my screen all day. My goal is to start subsidiaries under my studio name, so that I get to do my hobbies professionally while sharing them with others in uniquely, creatively designed facilities. I grew up in a military family and have four siblings aged 1-18, with one on the way. I live on a farm and have a cattle dog named Spur, who is spoiled rotten and loves to ride on tractors, excavators, boats, and even four-wheelers, but is afraid of duck decoys (not even real ducks, just the decoys).

So if you see Lily out and about, feel free to say hi! And don’t be shy about asking her about graphic design (we’re always happy to see our team thrive in all of their pursuits)
