🚨 𝐀 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐏𝐒𝐀 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 “𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄” 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐒…

For a few dollars, 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 can buy a list of “tree service leads.” Qualified or not. Legitimate company or not. Licensed and insured or not.

𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 #𝟏: This is an actual text Joseph and I receive on a regular basis asking if we’re interested in purchasing more tree leads.

Notice something interesting? They used my maiden name… and we’ve been married for over 4 years.

Which got me thinking — if the company selling these leads doesn’t even have my updated name, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨?

𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 #𝟐: A recent text a customer received — and thankfully, he sent it to me so we could have a little laugh together. He had already blocked the number and reported it as spam when I asked him to see if he could find out the name of the company.

𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 #𝟑: Naturally, my nosy/curious self wanted to know exactly who this “local tree company” was. So I asked the very simple questions any homeowner should ask:

𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐝? 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝?

And suddenly… 𝐒𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄.

That brings me to the bigger point.

The SAME thing applies to those catchy postcards, flyers and advertisements you receive in the mail. They may have a great discount, a professional-looking design, and say “LOCAL TREE COMPANY” in big letters.

But please remember: 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 Seeing a company’s name on a flyer, getting a text, or receiving a mailer does NOT automatically mean that company is legitimate, licensed, insured, experienced, or even actually local.

𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐰.

Check their reviews. Check their credentials. Ask for proof of insurance. Ask if they are properly licensed. And don’t be afraid to ask questions!
