On June 19, 1865, the enslaved people of Texas (believed to be the last of the enslaved to be notified) finally received word that they were legally free men and women. Juneteenth was founded on that day as the day of African-American Emancipation, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration day of the ending of slavery in the United States.

We celebrate the significance of this day and the freedom that was brought to our African-American brothers and sisters, who bring beauty and strength to the world. Happy Freedom Day!
