The snow may not be flying yet but we're quickly approaching winter! Colder temps can lead to frozen and burst pipes, which can lead to water damage and costly repairs.

To help you save time, money, and headaches, be sure to winter-proof your home’s interior and exterior pipes with these tips:

1. Disconnect and store garden hoses.
2. Turn off and drain the water from external faucets.
3. Turn off and drain sprinkler systems.
4. Know where your main waterline shut-off is before problems arise.
5. Insulate and protect your interior pipes, especially those that are extra vulnerable like rooms located above or next to a garage.
6. Don't turn off the heat when you leave home during the winter. Instead, set the temperature to at least 55 degrees F.
7. If you're leaving home for an extended time in the winter, consider leaving a faucet dripping to keep water moving through your pipes.
