If you've spent time in Cleveland, chances are you've seen the Warner & Swasey building. The massive factory complex once manufactured critical armament parts that supplied American and Allied forces through two world wars. Following its closure in 1985, the building stood vacant for nearly four decades, becoming one of MidTown's most recognizable landmarks and a reminder of the city's industrial past.
Last week marked a new chapter. After years of planning, the Warner & Swasey redevelopment officially broke ground.
The project will bring 112 affordable housing units alongside commercial and community spaces, all while preserving the building's historic industrial character.
Part of a broader investment along Carnegie Avenue, the redevelopment reconnects one of Cleveland's most recognizable industrial landmarks to the life of the city — this time as a place where people can live and gather.
